Everything that I think that I need to do is all only in order to propel me to some place that when I get there, I think I will be happier. So, everything that I am doing, no matter what it is, all of my lists of rights and wrongs... are all about me getting to a manifestation that I believe I will then be happier... So, why don't I take a short cut and just go get happy?
--- Abraham
Excerpted from the workshop in Washington, DC on Saturday, May 1st, 2004 #325 (Esther and Jerry Hicks)
I love these excerpts from Abraham. They are all so simple and direct and to me are like those moments in the V-8 commercials, those "duh" moments I call them. As another Abraham (Abraham Lincoln) said,
"Most folks are about as happy as they make up their minds to be."
Of course, this doesn't help much when one is in the depths of depression. Enter suZen's wonderful video post for this week. This video is a great description for what ails us when we are depressed over our own situation, whatever it may be. Please do yourself a favor and watch this video.
And then, if you still have questions over how to overcome depression and unhappiness, take a look at some of these quotes for inspiration. You know how I love quotes!:
What a wonderful life I've had! I only wish I'd realized it sooner. ~Colette
There are two things to aim at in life: first, to get what you want; and after that, to enjoy it. Only the wisest of mankind achieve the second. ~Logan Pearsall Smith, Afterthoughts, 1931
Most people would rather be certain they're miserable, than risk being happy. ~Robert Anthony
The best way to cheer yourself up is to try to cheer somebody else up. ~Mark Twain
If only we'd stop trying to be happy we could have a pretty good time. ~Edith Wharton
Happiness is like a butterfly which, when pursued, is always beyond our grasp, but, if you will sit down quietly, may alight upon you. ~Nathaniel Hawthorne
Hi Diantha! Thanks so much for the mention and helping to spread this around! I often laugh at myself and say if I had a nickle for every DUH moment.......clearly I'd be one rich lady. But ya know what? Those moments made me rich in a non-money way - and isn't that just the best possible outcome?!
ReplyDeleteI LOVE your quotes! Just perfect! You give flowers away with every post, my dear.
Hugs
suZen
Oh suZen, we are both wealthy women aren't we! Thank you for your endearing comments! Lots of love to you!
ReplyDeleteTrue and beautiful thoughts Diantha. I didn't know you were that much of a quote lover. Kindred spirits we are.
ReplyDeleteI have a separate folder for different categories of quotes on the topics I am passionate about: life, writing, solitude, silence, home, friendship....
Here's one of my favorite happiness quotes:
"The foolish man seeks happiness in the distance, the wise grows it under his feet."
~ James Oppenheim
Cheryl, we really are kindred spirits! I collect quotes the way other women collect diamonds or shoes or gorgeous handbags! I love the quote you posted here...you must have a wonderful collection of them! I also collect shells! And rocks! I am obviously easily entertained! GRINS! XOXOXOXO
ReplyDeleteI love a good quote, too! Excellent post. I'll check out the video when I have access to sound on my computer.
ReplyDeleteCarolynn, hope you get sound soon! You'll love this video! We are all such kindred spirits here! We should have a week of all quotes!
ReplyDeleteDiantha ANOTHER great post. I am so pleased I popped over here tonight. I love what you wrote to Cheryl - "I collect quotes the way other women collect diamonds or shoes or gorgeous handbags!" .....ME TOO!

Oh Peggy, I am thrilled that you popped over here too and am also not surprised to hear you are another quote collector! We have quite a club here! Would love to exchange quotes over the years! Blessings to you too, my kindred spirit!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful post! Love the quotes..especially the first one... Makes me more present and aware.
ReplyDeleteCaroline, that is what I love about good quotes...they open us up to "aha" moments! xo
ReplyDeleteSome interesting quotes. Here's another "There is no particular way to happiness. Happiness IS the way."
ReplyDeleteCan anyone tell me who said that?
Hi Diantha,
ReplyDeleteA great post!
I too collect quotes, writing them down in my journal.
You have shared a beautiful selection.
Thank you,
sema
Hello again
ReplyDeleteYour analogy regarding simple and complex was an excellent one Diantha. Lets hope we always have the courage to dive in and feel our way through life and not worry about the whatif's.
Regarding my holiday in July/Aug to your fabulous country. I'm basing myself with a friend in Texas and we'll be doing road trips to Oklahoma and San Antonio. Then I am flying to Wisconsin and North Carolina for a few days to visit more friends. On my way home I am going via London to see another girlfriend.
Unfortunately my 'round the world' ticket only allows me to travel to 3 states in the USA otherwise I would pop over to Michigan and catch up with you as well.
I am soooo looking forward to this trip as it has been 2 1/2 years in the making.
Hey about our love of quotes, one day when time allows I am going to start a blog devoted to quotes only and add appropriate photos. Probably when I get home from the USA trip.
Hugs

Stoneweaver, I am wondering if it might be Gandhi? I do love that quote on happiness. Thank you for bringing it into the discussion!
ReplyDeleteSema, you are the quotation queen! And someone who does something with them other than collect! To the rest of you, if you aren't familiar with Sema's etsy store, go to her blog and get the link. She has EVERYTHING!
Peggy, I am so sorry we will not be able to meet up personally but I have a feeling we are out in the ethers together regardless! You will have a wonderful trip and I LOVE the idea of a blog just for quotes! I'll try to be better by then at doing this blogging. I'm not very good at it yet, but there is always hope!
I look forward to following you around the world! xo
Diantha I googled Stoneweaver's question about who thought up that quote and it said Wayne Dyer.

Cheers
Peg
Peggy, thank you for doing that! Dr. Dyer is one of my favorite mentors...I appreciate knowing who said that quote! Thank you! xo
ReplyDeleteSince we are sharing our collecting passions Diantha, I also collect tea pots, pens, wooden mortars and pestles, aprons (not necessarily antique I select only those I am drawn too by their colors and patterns. While there are a few other items I like, these are my favorites.
ReplyDeleteOh Cheryl, we must be sisters....I LOVE tea pots and pens! I also love mortars and pestles and aprons but never thought to collect them! Love that idea! It's such fun to have collections. I have given away most of my collections as I no longer have room for things but it's funny....things keep coming to me! It's so funny how that works! Give away, it comes back in another form! Give away, it comes back. Such is the flow of life!
ReplyDeleteThat's so true:
ReplyDelete"Give away, it comes back in another form! Give away, it comes back."
It's been my experience as well and you know something, the joy is even more intense, the second time around.
Cheryl, you are so right. The second time around joy increases! Thanks for pointing that out! xo
