Home Again

Finally home after a long time away. It is always so good to come back home. When I was younger I could hardly wait to travel, but now that I have the time to do so, I don't have the desire! Why is life so backwards? When we needed the space in our home for three growing boys and assorted animals, we couldn't afford to have a big home. When we could finally afford a bigger house, it was time to downsize. When I was young and thin I couldn't afford to buy clothes. By the time I could afford to get some new things, it wasn't fun to shop for old lady clothes. It is one of those paradoxes of life I guess!

Anyway, here we are, home again and settling back into our routine. If you could go anywhere, where would it be? For me, it would be here, at home, but it wasn't always the case. I had dreams of going many places and I did get to go to many, many places all over the world. So tell me your dreams...where would you go? Or what would you like to do? I love to hear about your lives....I love the sharing. So share away!

  1. I've always had the strange phenomenon that I am almost homesick for places I have never been. A few years ago it was Italy, but then we visited Italy two years ago and the intense yearning for it was gone. Now, it's Iceland and I think we are planning a trip for next summer. Also Scotland, Newfoundland, Scandinavia, Nova Scotia, etc. I think I am drawing to the nordic countries - it's that nordic blood in me...

And, I am like you, even though I LOVE to travel, I am equally happy to be back home. I think that's wonderful - to love home and to love being on the road.

Glad you are back!! Love, Silke

  2. I'm a homebody Diantha. I cherish the country cottage feel I have been creating over the years. My bedroom and my front porch are my favorite spaces for relaxing, reading, dreaming and journaling.

One dream I still hold is to own a beach cottage, right on the shore. It will be a family holiday spot, a hangout for my girlfriends and I and a beach retreat for me whenever I need to get away by myself.

I'd love to travel to Spain. Spain is at the top of my list. It is the birthplace of my paternal grandmother. I've always loved the language and have recently acquired the Rosetta Stone Spanish course. I don't know when I'll have time to learn Spanish. In the mean time, I enjoy listening to the music and reading about the country, the people and their customs.

  3. Silke, that is amazing as I used to have the SAME THING! Feeling homesick for places I had never been to. And yes, we are so lucky to be able to travel, and to be so "at home" at home! I hope you get to all the places you are yearning to visit! My husband is wanting to go to all the Nordic countries...I bet they are worth going to too!

Cheryl, I have a picture in my head of your porch. I imagine some white seating with colorful cushions or throws on them. Birds singing, wind moving through the leaves. And you there, reading and writing, happy, safe and fulfilled. I am so happy for you that you have that porch, and that bedroom that is a sanctuary for you. (mine too for me!)

I hope you get that beach cottage one day. It sounds like a wonderful dream, one that can come true!

Spain is a wonderful country. We never would have gone if not for the fact that one of our sons went there for a semester abroad in college. He was a Spanish major and speaks fluent Spanish. He is now living and working in Uruguay. But truly, we had no desire to see Spain and we absolutely adored it! It should be on everyone's list! He lived in Grenada, probably my favorite spot we visited. Toledo was wonderful too...well so was Saville...oh forget it! I cannot pick a favorite! Good luck learning Spanish!

  4. I am a complete wanderlust and lack a connected feel. I always have my eye on "somewhere else" but rarely get to travel. I would love to see Washington and Oregon, I want to go to Montreal, I want to see Bryce Canyon and many other natural wonders of the state. I would love to spend a year traveling Europe. Italy, England, France, Ireland. I always feel like my home is out there somewhere. I never feel grounded or like I belong. It's a sad, lonely feeling actually and I wish I could feel grounded and in love with where I am at. Maybe someday I will have the opportunity to travel extensively and I will tire of it and ground myself to one home. Until then, I shed tears when I think about how trapped I feel in my current location. Just doesn't seem right.

  5. Nacherluver, you are right. It does not seem right! To put you at ease, I felt like you did for years. Until I found this house at age 52. For the last 10 years I have finally felt like I found home at last. I feel firmly planted here and my wanderlust has gradually faded. Don't get me wrong, once I go on a trip I love it and have fun, but I just don't have that whatever it is that pushed me before into wanting to travel anywhere, anytime. I hope you can find home sometime for you. I think maybe you are just a misplaced angel, looking for home. Bless you, Nacherluver.

  6. Welcome back! I so want to go to Paris, and many places, but if I could get on a plane today it would be Paris.xoxo

  7. Annie, thank you for the nice welcome home! And yes, PARIS, the city of lights! It is a wonderful place to go! There are many glorious spots on this amazing planet. Different strokes for different folks as they say. I have been so fortunate to have seen so many of them. Just chance, and a little planning I guess. We saw the movie Amelia last night about Amelia Earhart and the photography of these different places was exquisite. But no scenes of Paris alas! That would be a different movie I guess! Thanks for your comment! xo

  8. Hi Diantha! Dorothy (in the Wizard of Oz) had it right, didn't she? "There's no place like home!" I smiled reading your paradox paragraph! Boy can I relate to that! I have to stop myself from whining like some little kid "awwww, this ain't FAIR!"

As for travel, I don't as much as I did in the past. We are really looking forward to a trip in April to Turks and Caicos - the first "real" trip in many years for us. I usually get worn out traveling from here to the lake house many times a year. Gotta admit, I love being home more and more. Gulp. Is this old lady stuff? (shhh! don't answer that!!)

  9. My wanderlust is not so much to places but relates to life.
I have seen quite a few places and although fun, I want my life at home to be exciting too.
Now I live in a beautiful garden and explore a great new way of living.
I do not yearn for change of scenery but for a chance in how we live our lives.
Hmm, interesting that this brought that up for me.

  10. Oh suZen! I hear those Islands are awesome! I know you will have a great vacation! And "old lady stuff"? Surely not! That old lady in the mirror i see is not me....it is my mother! LOL!

  11. Home is where the heart is and sometimes the heart is at home where your life is. Welcome home, you've been missed. Pull up a chair, kick off your shoes, and bask in the ambiance called home. Love and Light, Nina P

  13. Wilma, oh what an interesting reply! I love this, that the change is not related to scenery but to life itself! Brilliant! Thank you for stretching out the meaning of this to include other parameters!

  14. Funny, I LOVE to travel and explore new countries and cultures, yet lately, when I've had the opportunity, I've chosen to remain coccooned inside my home instead. Hmmm....

  15. P.S. I really love your new banner!

(Is that your porch & pooch?)

  16. Carolynn, you bring up an interesting point. My husband and I used to love to travel too and for both of us we are feeling that staying at home or at least closer to it is what we are desiring! I wonder if this is due to all the uncertainty in the air? Perhaps we are, most of us, being guided to stay close to home.

And I am glad you like the new banner! I love that image! And no, it is not my porch and pooch. I wish! We did have a Golden once but that was a while ago. We now have cats. We have a lovely porch but this image I used for a feng shui and real estate seminar I teach. It's so welcoming isn't it!
