Anyway, I have two tidbits of useless information that I thought were fun. I found these little known facts in a great magazine called The Week. I love that magazine because it is short, it provides several views of the same opinion piece, it gives an overview of world news, US news, art and book news, QUOTES (for you quote lovers out there!) etc. etc. etc. I love it.
So here are the two facts I found in it this last week that I thought you might enjoy:
1. Feng Shui related: Our ancient ancestors, Homoheidelbergensis lived 800,000 years ago in Israel. Archaeologists have unearthed evidence that they, like us, divided up their living space into functional areas. Instead of houses, they lived in caves, but they had separate areas for cooking, sleeping, tool making, hearth and community. Being able to organize life this well tells scientists that our "primitive hominid ancestors" lived at a level of sophistication once thought to be exclusive to Homo Sapiens species of 40,000 years ago. Pretty cool, eh!
2. Color fact: At New Year's in Mexico it is traditional for the women to buy colored panties to symbolize what they want to bring in for themselves for the year. The traditional choice has been red which is said to assist the wearer in finding love for the New Year. THIS year, the choice was yellow, which represents a new desire for the women: yellow is for gold/money, and tells researchers (underwear research? Hmmmm.) that the economy is now their prime concern. And Mexico's economy is the hardest hit of all Latin America. Now we'll see it this novel approach works. I've always said "never underestimate the power of color"! Can't hurt can it!
So go out and wow all your friends with this wealth of TUI (Totally Useless Info). And have fun!

ReplyDeleteI love Mexico and it's people and have spent a lot of time there. I love the way they use color everywhere. The use of color and panties is hilarious...I'm going to get some red and yellow today! Maybe we should make up our own symbolism for the other colors. How fun!
Hi Diantha! I have several copies of that book of useless info and I think they are a riot. I was honestly just thinking about that book as journal fodder TODAY - and here you have it - spooky?

p.s. Did you try hiding "it" in the bottom of the laundry hamper? Or in a large sized box of detergent (empty bottom, it slides right in and you store it like it's not open yet, but a spare - obviously having drained the soap out into something else)?

suZen, yes, I agree that our ancestors had more on the ball than we credit them with! and you and I must be on the same wavelength! As for hiding journals, I've found just about every hiding place there is. I believe we have reached a place where I don't really need one anymore. It's just getting over those old emotions of fear and betrayal....thanks for spurring me on, though, to change!

We, Homo Sapiens, love to think that we are so advanced, so sophisticated, so wise and modernized but much of what and how we think, what we do and how we do it has roots in the lives or our ancestors, even the Homoheidelbergensis.

ReplyDeleteTess, love it! Let's do that! Reminds me of those old sets of 7 panties, one for each day of the week, each a different color...do they still do that? Anyway, isn't it fun how people bring color into so many aspects of their lives! And Mexico IS a wonderfully colorful country!
